After 25 years in the duty-free industry, Susan Whelan translated the commercial principles of luxury retail to the world of professional football when the Thai duty-free company, King Power International, bought Leicester City Football Club and appointed her as Chief Executive in 2011. Since then she has steered the Club to Premier League and FA Cup victories, as well as three seasons in European football, and oversaw the acquisition of LCFC Women and its promotion to the Women’s Super League. Susan led delivery of the world-class 180-acre Leicester City Training Ground which opened in December 2020, and is leading the team working on the King Power Stadium expansion project.
Susan represents King Power on the Board of its Belgian Club, OH Leuven, is a Director of LCFC Women and a Trustee of Leicester City in the Community and the VS Foundation.
Susan was named FC Business CEO of the Year in 2021 and a year later was awarded an OBE in recognition of her services to football, the economy in the East Midlands and the wider community in Leicester.
