BEST FOOTBALL COMMUNITY SCHEME – PREMIER LEAGUE 2019

February 29, 2020 by

Albion in the Community

Abion in the Community is one of the leading football charities in the UK, with a reputation for delivering pioneering, innovative and impactful programmes across the south coast.

Working in some of the most economically and health deprived coastal communities in the UK, the charity makes a genuine and lasting difference to the lives of tens of thousands of local people.
A recent independent social and economic study found Albion in the Community creates an annual social impact valued in excess of £28million, all from an income of just £3.2million. Put simply, for every £1 of income, the charity creates £8.84 of positive impact for local people.

It is a record which everyone connected with Brighton & Hove Albion is incredibly proud – including the club’s supporters. In the most-recent Premier League Fan Matchday Survey, the charity’s work again led the way in how fans of Premier League clubs viewed their community schemes.

The survey found 95% of Albion supporters felt the club made a significant contribution to the local community (compared to a Premier League average of 77%), with 94% feeling that the work was an important part of the culture and philosophy of Brighton & Hove Albion.

Everton in the Community

Everton in the Community is one of the UK’s top sporting charities and firmly established on the world stage of community sports development.

As the official charity of Everton Football Club, it is considered one of the Premier League’s leading community schemes due to the quality and reach of its programmes.

Recently awarded ‘Freedom of the City of Liverpool’ in recognition of its contribution to changing and saving lives across Merseyside, Everton in the Community (EitC) has been at the forefront of social intervention across the Liverpool City Region since 1988; tackling social issues prevalent across the city and addressing them head on.

Everton Football Club resides in the Kirkdale ward of Liverpool, which is in the most deprived 5% of neighbourhoods nationally. More than half of the children in the area live in poverty while the area in general faces challenges such as high unemployment, crime and health, housing and education problems.

EitC delivers more than 40 programmes a year, specifically designed and developed to combat these challenges which are prevalent across Merseyside. Its social programmes tackle issues such as mental health, employability, dementia, education, disability, poverty and homelessness.

Leicester City in the Community

Leicester City in the Community (LCitC) is an independent, registered charity governed by a board of Trustees, however we do not work alone. We are a central part of the Leicester City Football Club (LCFC) family, working closely with the Club, with Supporter Engagement and the Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha Foundation (VSF) .

Despite recent success enhancing the brand recognition and reputation on a global scale, LCFC remains a club proudly rooted in the local community.

Experiencing significant change; including the recruitment of new Head of Community who took up post in October 2017, Leicester City in the Community set out to achieve:

  • The publication, following extensive consultation, of a new strategy and business plan
  • A new way of working; new themes, new partners, new focus, new strategy
  • Initial implementation of strategy and business plan
  • Work towards becoming an indispensable partner to Leicester City Football Club

During 2018/19, we have worked tirelessly with all those that contribute to our charity; our staff, participants, Club staff, local and national partners and funders, and Trustees to develop a simple, but fit-for-purpose strategy and business plan that will help shape our work over the next 4-years.

Newcastle United Foundation

Newcastle United Foundation was established to harness football’s power to deliver positive change in our area Since 2008 the commitment, dedication and enthusiasm of our staff and stakeholders has seen the Foundation become a pillar of the community, working with over 50,000 disadvantaged young people and families across Newcastle, Gateshead, Northumberland and North Tyneside

We work in some of the most deprived areas in the North East and our key objective is to use football as a means of engaging people in projects and activities that can help raise their aspirations and support positive change in their lives. We need to raise around £2 million each year to do this.

We’re proud that 92p of every £1 that is raised by the Foundation is reinvested in charitable activity The importance of nurturing the relationships we establish with stakeholders is vital to our success.

In 2018 the Foundation is 10 year’s old, having raised over £13 million to support programme delivery and engagement in our region. We have also have planning permission approved for a purpose built community, education and health and wellbeing hub to be constructed in the heart of the city which will help us reach even move people.

Saints Foundation, Charity of Southampton Football Club

Saints Foundation is the charity of Southampton Football Club – we are the club’s way of giving back.

Using the power and passion of the club, we help to transform lives in and around Southampton, helping people fulfil their potential to be more involved, healthier and empowered members of the community.

During 2018, we engaged over 19,000 people through our many programmes, and in so doing, inspired individuals of all abilities, aged 2 to 103.

Working with key stakeholders and partners, we use a wide range of methodology to measure our impact and inform future developments, with all projects and interventions based on the needs of the individuals with whom we engage, as well as those of the wider local community.

We have supported many people to make positive and sustainable changes across the last few years, with one participant of our Saints4Sport project commenting: “It’s changed our life, and our kid’s lives. The support they [Saints Foundation] give, it’s what we needed to make the change. I couldn’t have done it without these lot, they changed my life.

West Ham United Foundation

As the club’s official charity arm, the West Ham United Foundation is a focal point of the club’s community commitments. With over 35 initiatives being delivered seven days a week across east London, Essex and globally, and new projects regularly being developed, the Foundation continues to grow from strength to strength.

Providing unique projects in community, health, education, and employability, the Foundation harnesses the power of football and the West Ham United brand to inspire, empower and educate local communities. These projects are specifically targeted to cater for the needs of the localities in which they operate. Given this approach, and since their work is so vast and diverse, the Foundation is rightly regarded as one of the most forward-thinking in the country.

The past year has been one of the strongest for the West Ham United Foundation, in which staff have united and worked tirelessly to help and inspire those in the local community. Community is in West Ham United’s DNA and as the Foundation’s 30th anniversary approaches in 2020 they’ve shown time and time again how lives can be changed through the power of sport.

BEST FOOTBALL COMMUNITY SCHEME – NON PREMIER LEAGUE 2019

February 29, 2020 by

Bristol Rovers Community Trust

Bristol Rovers Community Trust was originally launched in 1992 as part of the PFA’s nationwide Football in the Community initiative to encourage children to play football and support their local club.

The Community Trust has rapidly evolved, achieving charitable status in 2001, six years later coming under the governance of the English Football League and now offers numerous different projects to people aged from 4 to over 90 years old. We have over the last 18 months expanded rapidly and now have 9 full time members of staff, 6 part time staff and of volunteer base of over 50.

As the charity arm of Bristol Rovers we are responsible for continually developing the community element of our club and unlike other charities in our area, do this by engagement with an incredibly wide range of service users from all sectors of our community, regardless of age, gender, religion or background. Bristol Rovers Community Trust engages with over 3800 people per week across all our differing projects.

the past year Bristol Rovers Community Trust was voted the Bristol Life Charity of the Year 2018 and was also awarded the Gloucestershire Football Association Grassroots Project of the Year 2019

Cardiff City FC Community Foundation

Cardiff City FC Community Foundation is the official charity of Cardiff City FC. Established in 2009, our mission is to use the unique appeal of Cardiff City FC to change lives. Put simply, ‘our club changes lives’.

Our goal is to support children, young people and families in South Wales to achieve their full potential. We focus on three key outcomes; creating healthier and more active lives, improve education and employment opportunities and reducing offending and reoffending.

Cardiff City FC Community Foundation’s Bluebirds Ability programme provides children and young people with disability sport opportunities in Cardiff. We do this through a range of sessions that play an important role in connecting fans with a disability to Cardiff City Football Club.

Bluebirds Ability sessions use football and sport as a tool to support children and young people with various disabilities improve their physical health, increase confidence and develop positive relationships with other participants and relatives.

Derby County Community Trust

Derby County Community Trust uses the power of Derby County Football Club to improve lives and communities through health, education, physical activity and sport. A workforce of 60 full-time staff members, and an additional 100+ part-time workers and volunteers, sees us help over 24,000 Derbyshire residents annually

In 2018, we were recognised as EFL Community Club of the Year for the second time in four years, and also received our biggest ever single investment of £1 million at the start of the 2018/19 season.

This Essentials Life Skills funding from the Department for Education has not only proven the Derby County Community Trust as not just a sports charity, but one capable of using the avenues of education and health to improve lives beyond recognition We are extremely proud of our 40+ projects, but the 2018-19 season in particular has seen us branch into new territories by forming a holistic offer with Derby’s cultural partners to ensure that our children and young people are not left behind.

This Is Derby is the first partnership of its kind in our city and beyond, and we hope to inspire more football clubs to forge similar relationships with their cultural partners.

Fulham Football Club Foundation

Fulham Football Club Foundation, in partnership with Women in Sport, Fatherhood Institute, and the EFL Trust have been redefining the role of fathers/father figures in getting girls active through its Daughters and Dads programme.

The programme, funded by Sport England and based on the successful programme led by Newcastle University in Australia, is specifically designed to support low-income families.

Parents often see their role as helpers rather than role models in encouraging their children to be active. Research by the University of Newcastle (Australia) found that fathers are less involved with their daughters than mothers, tend to spend less time with daughters than sons, and don’t acknowledge their role in fostering their daughters’ physical activity behaviours.

Fulham Football Club Foundation have delivered weekly 90-minute group sessions combining practical and educational activities, for 11 consecutive weeks. The programme teaches girls sports skills through fun games and physical activities and educates fathers about positive lifestyle role-modelling and parenting strategies, as well as exploring the challenges and experiences of girls in physical activity at various stages.

Sunderland AFC / Foundation of Light

In September 2018, Sunderland AFC charity Foundation of Light opened the Beacon of Light, a one-of-a-kind centre that encapsulates everything positive that football and sport can inspire.

Created to address the region’s challenges through four unique inspiring zones (education; health and wellbeing; sport and play; and world of work) the centre now welcomes over 5,500 people every week, to engage in positive, life-changing activities.

The Beacon of Light’s mission ‘to provide world class sporting facilities alongside first class education and training facilities for all’ is realised through features including: a 4G rooftop football pitch; 12 court indoor arena that can be converted into a 3,000+ attendee events space; seven units dedicated to and delivering industry-specific qualifications and skills training needed within the North East; six classrooms/meeting areas; a nursery; an alternative provision school; three consultation rooms specifically for Health and Wellbeing-focused activity; six 3G 5-a-side pitches; and two MUGA courts, all underpinned by the Foundation of Light’s award-winning project delivery teams.

SPONSORSHIP / PARTNERSHIP OF THE YEAR 2019

February 29, 2020 by

English Football League & Mind

Launched in July 2018, the EFL and Mind’s ground-breaking collaboration has provided a unique opportunity to improve the nation’s mental health and wellbeing.

Every year, 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem. That’s one person in every family, so it could be hundreds of footballers and thousands of football fans. Traditionally men have found it more difficult to speak out about their mental health and is one of the many reasons that the EFL and Mind decided to join forces.

In year one of the partnership, the EFL and Mind have worked together to raise awareness of mental health with fans, Clubs and the wider public; raise money to deliver life changing national and local support and help improve the approach to mental health in football working with other partners in the game.

FC Barcelona & Stanley Black & Decker

Stanley Black & Decker is passionate about supporting individuals and teams who are blazing a trail and making a significant difference for future generations. Sharing its vision for a more diverse and inclusive world, Stanley Black & Decker is the first jersey sponsor of the FC Barcelona Femení women’s football team under its STANLEY brand.

This outstanding club is continuously raising the game, not just in football, but as role models for the professional athletes who will follow in their paths. Reinforcing the company’s purpose ‘For Those Who Make The World’, Stanley Black & Decker chose to sponsor FC Barcelona Femení as they are ultimate pioneers and innovators in their field. Both organisations believe in the philosophy that ‘together we are more’. Focused on breaking boundaries and setting standards in women’s football, they are true champions of change. Through their positive actions and encouragement, this exceptional team is helping other young girls feel empowered and realise their dreams.

As part of their ongoing marketing collaboration, this short film was created by FC Barcelona Femení and STANLEY to emphasise the message that football is for everyone regardless of gender, and was released to celebrate International Women’s Day 2019.

Leeds United Football Club & Eleven Sports Media

The Leeds United Partner Programme has been developed in partnership with the club and Eleven Sports Media, a sports technology and partner programme agency.

Launched in January 2018, the Leeds United project turned the traditional partner programme model on its head. Eleven identified a need for new era of activation for all partners, incorporating digital branded content, events and the creation and usage of bespoke partner IP. 2018/19 was the programme’s first full season of operation and has proven to be a huge commercial success for all stakeholders.

Eleven’s experience in constructing partner programmes by bringing together a range of digital communications channels had already seen them achieve commercial success at clubs such as Middlesbrough, Newcastle United, Crystal Palace and Watford.

Norwich City Football Club & Visit Tampa Bay

Best summarised as a partnership that has allowed Norwich City to set in motion plans to internationalise the Club, plans that very conceivably wouldn’t have happened anywhere near as quickly had this partnership not been so successful.

Norwich City has a number of synergies with Visit Tampa Bay as an organisation, and we believe our relationship is leading the way in how international sponsorships should work.

Our warm weather winter training camp in Tampa, in November 2018, was a first of its kind in football, particularly at Championship level, and the links fostered from that have grown to the extent that Norwich City now has an official partnership with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, and long-term links with Tampa Bay Lightning and Tampa Bay Rays.

Our long-term goal is that soccer fans in Tampa Bay take Norwich City to their heart and we become the go-to option as a supporter of UK football, outside of the top 6 teams.

This would never have been possible without our partnership with Visit Tampa Bay, and the warm weather winter training camp was the culmination of a year’s hard work in planning.

Portsmouth Football Club & University of Portsmouth

At the start of the 2018/19 season, Portsmouth Football Club secured the University of Portsmouth as Front of Shirt and Main Club Sponsor on a three-year contract.

With both the Football Club and University of Portsmouth playing a huge role in the city, it seemed a natural fit that will not only benefit the current group of students offering them valuable work experience opportunities but more specifically help increase participation rates in higher education in the area.

In order to tackle this issue, the University of Portsmouth strengthened their relationship with Portsmouth Football Club and during the 2018/19 season have achieved some amazing accolades including over 950 young people having a First Team player visit at their school as part of an inspiring motivational UoP Outreach visit, 100 UoP students employed by the Club in part-time or full-time roles and a bespoke Purple Kit launched to showcase the strength of the partnership.

As we embark on the 2019/20 season, we are excited to continue working with the University of Portsmouth and further strengthening the relationship in and amongst the city of Portsmouth to help build on these relationships within the wider community.

Tottenham Hotspur & Hotels.com

Hotels.com launched its partnership with leading Premier League football Club, Tottenham Hotspur at the beginning of the 2018/2019 season. This was the brand’s first European sports partnership and as multi-faceted activation plan was developed and executed to meet their objectives to drive awareness, promote its rewarding and irreverent personality and generate revenue.

The partners provided a constant and relevant platform to promote the brand to the Club’s 463 million global followers. It used star players to create engaging content to amplify its key messages to a targeted, travel loving audience. Finally, it introduced innovative technology to integrate a value exchange for fans into the ticket purchasing journey and offered exclusive discounts to the Club’s supporters.

The campaign cumulatively reached nearly 100 million on digital channels and well over 100 million on traditional broadcast. This resulted in strong familiarity and favourability of the brand amongst surveyed Tottenham Hotspur fans. In addition, a cumulative quarter of a million supporters were offered a one-off discount voucher and a season long discount code for Club members generated hundreds of room bookings of which nearly half were made by new customers of Hotels.com.

Vanarama, Prostate Cancer UK and The National League

The MANarama campaign was a historic fundraising and awareness campaign in conjunction with Non-League Day (13 October 2018), leveraging a new partnership with the National League, and continuing Prostate Cancer UK’s relationship with longstanding partner, Vanarama, also title sponsor of the National League. Vanarama and the National League changed its name to the MANarama National League throughout the month of September until Non-League Day, with the ambition to raise £150,000. They donated £50 for every vehicle leased from the start of September until Non-League Day, and launched a successful digital awareness drive.

The primary objectives were to raise awareness of prostate cancer within the football community and beyond, while raising money to enable Prostate Cancer UK to ultimately focus on radical improvements in diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and support of those affected by prostate cancer; primarily by:

Bringing to life the official partnership between the Vanarama National League and Prostate Cancer UK through a UK-first re-branding of a football league mid-season
Raising £150,000 for Prostate Cancer UK through Vanarama’s “lease a van, save a man” fundraising drive
Working with the National League’s 68 clubs to raise awareness of the campaign
To educate and reach at-risk men, and those who have a low awareness of the risk of prostate cancer by utilising the reach of Vanarama across all channels to the company’s 80% male audience, including Vanarama employees

West Bromwich Albion & Ideal Boilers

Ideal Boilers saw a unique opportunity to partner with West Bromwich Albion to achieve their objectives of increased brand awareness across the UK. The introduction of Boiler Man generated viral global coverage that has delivered unprecedented media content to bolster already impressive media values from the partnership.

By working together Ideal Boilers and West Bromwich Albion have created a partnership proposition that has given the fans an emotional connection with the brand while simultaneously driving commercial objectives and value.
